How many antioxidants does your water have?!

TRUE OR FALSE

  1. Oxidation is extremely healthy for your cells.
  2. Free Radicals kill your cells in order to replace their missing molecule.
  3. Antioxidants are only found in fruits and vegetables.
  4. Naturally-occurring antioxidants and synthetic antioxidants have the same health benefits.

All of those questions are FALSE!

Let's take a deeper look at Antioxidants: Why you need them in the first place, and how to choose the highest quality antioxidants for optimal health.

Oxidation

Oxidation is a chemical reaction that happens all around you. An apple turns brown; iron rusts; coal burns. Oxidation occurs in your body due to a variety of factors - pollution, cigarette smoke, excessive alcohol, poor diet, etc.
These factors introduce oxygen to your cells and cause an atom to lose an electron. Like all things in nature, the loss of balance can have problematic effects.  When a cell is oxidized, the best case scenario is for the cell to die - which isn't as bad as it sounds!
Your body is a pro at replacing dead cells with new ones. The real problem arises if the cell is damaged by oxidation, but doesn't die. This damaged cell turns into what's known as a Free Radical.

Free Radicals

Free Radicals may be tiny, but they can have a fiercely damaging effect on your body. These cells roam around your body in attack mode, looking for other cells to hijack so they can replace their missing parts.
Instead of killing other cells (which your body could easily replace), Free Radicals leave damaged cells in their wake. This damage goes so deep that it even affects the cell's DNA. Now the cell mutates, replicates, and spreads its faulty DNA.
This is how disease begins, and why it can spread so quickly throughout the body.

Antioxidants

Enter the Super Hero of our story (and your health). Antioxidants neutralize Free Radicals. They work by donating an extra electron to oxidized molecules, so the handicapped molecules don't have to steal one from healthy cells. Now the cell is back to normal and operating as usual!
It's no wonder scientists keep finding more and more health benefits of Antioxidants - they are Nature's way of STOPPING diseased cells before they spread!
Nature has given us many different sources of antioxidants: Beans, fruits, vegetables, nuts, tea leaves, cocoa, and more. But not all antioxidants are created equal, and some are much stronger than others.
The stronger the antioxidant, the more oxygen it will reduce in your cells. Unfortunately, many consumers try to skip corners by purchasing synthetic antioxidants or supplements that have very low Antioxidant capacity, but the health benefits just aren't there.
ORP MeterWouldn't it be great if there was a way to measure and compare Antioxidants?
Good news - there is!
The strength of an antioxidant CAN be determined by its Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) level, and this level can be measured with an ORP meter. A powerful antioxidant has a low or negative ORP level, which indicates that it has great ability to reduce oxidation. A low ORP level indicates the antioxidant is strong enough to, for instance, reduce the corrosion of metal or the browning of an apple.
Would you like to see an ORP meter at work? How about comparing the Antioxidants found in your favorite beverages?
